Pastor Jack Hibbs Calls All Americans to Pray and Fast for Our Nation

Pastor Jack Hibbs of the California-based megachurch Calvary Chapel Chino Hills is urging Americans, especially Christians, to join in a month of prayer and fasting for the nation next month in Tennessee. During the period Sermon Hibbs told his congregation on Sunday that Tennessee’s Republican governor, Bill Lee, has signed a bill calling on state residents to pray and fast for their state and country for 30 days, starting July 1.

according to The Christian StandtHibbs called on his congregation to stand up and call on “every pastor in America and every Christian church in America” to “join us in Tennessee.” He also lamented that California’s Democratic governor, Gavin Newsom, “wouldn’t say that.”

“We don’t need to tell the governor that,” he continued, “and we have ears to hear what the Holy Spirit is saying. And the Holy Spirit is calling the state of Tennessee, its governor and its people to pray for America.”

“We in California can do the same,” Hibbs declared, emphasizing his call to the “American church,” adding, “Let us all be Tennesseans this July and pray and fast as the Lord leads us.”

“Maybe God is waiting for America and its church to wake up,” he suggested, asking the church to pray with him and calling on God to “pour out his Holy Spirit not only on Tennessee but also on California.”

The megachurch pastor also asked his congregants to share footage of that part of the service on social media and urged them to “pray throughout the month of July.”

Governor Lee signed the legislation on April 16 after it was approved by the House and Republican-controlled Senate earlier this year.

“As public servants of the Tennessee General Assembly, we implore God’s mercy upon our nation and entreat him not to withdraw his blessings from us,” the resolution reads. “We acknowledge our sins and shortcomings before God and humbly ask His forgiveness.”

The resolution prayed “to the Lord Jesus to heal our nation and eradicate violence, human trafficking, addiction and corruption” and asked “the Holy Spirit to fill our government buildings, classrooms, workplaces, churches and homes with peace, love and joy.”

Finally, the resolution called on those who are “physically able and mentally willing” to “participate in a season of prayer and intermittent fasting as we seek God’s blessings, humble ourselves to receive His grace and mercy, and transform ourselves, our communities, our state, and our nation as we enter into the new fiscal year.”

The document also noted that past state and national founders “placed their trust in the hands of Almighty God to guide and bless our nation.”
