South Carolina Pastor and Wife Arrested After Foster Child Reports Abuse
A pastor and his wife from South Carolina found themselves in serious legal trouble after their foster child reported being sexually abused. Authorities have confirmed the arrests of 50-year-olds Rodney Gibson and Kawiana Young, who are facing charges related to unlawful conduct with a minor.
In addition to the main charge, Gibson faces more severe accusations including first-degree criminal sexual conduct and contributing to a minor’s delinquency. This stems from allegations brought forth by the victim last month, indicating that she suffered abuse while living in the couple’s home.
Reportedly, the young girl claimed she was repeatedly assaulted by Gibson starting at age 15 until she exited foster care. Investigators later discovered that a minor had been residing with Gibson and Young.
The child detailed to investigators that Gibson had sexually abused him while Young was involved in physical abuse. Following these revelations, the minor was placed into Emergency Protective Detention.
On March 20, during a hearing regarding protective custody, an order was issued by a family court judge to return the minor to the couple’s home. After further interviews and evidence gathering, an arrest warrant was executed, leading to their arrest on April 1. The minor was taken into protective custody shortly thereafter.
Both Gibson and Young were released on bail by April 2.
According to the South Carolina Department of Social Services, Young had a foster care license from June 2021 until June 2025. During this time, she had cared for six children but voluntarily surrendered her license recently. Strangely, the agency reported that she never disclosed Gibson’s presence in the home, and his name was absent from the foster care license. Young had also not revealed any marital status or relationship with him.
The agency has stated that they are fully cooperating with ongoing investigations.
Authorities are concerned there may be additional victims and urge anyone with relevant information to step forward.
Rodney Gibson is the pastor of Pathway 2 Hope Ministries, while Kawiana Young is associated with Dreamcatcher Child Development Center.
