Pat McAfee talks up Colts’ Daniel Jones, pushes Anthony Richardson trade

Pat McAfee was attacked during his time at Daniel Jones in Indianapolis.

The ESPN personality and former Colts punter rave about the former Giants quarterback after he signed a one-year deal worth $14 million with his old club.

“For me, Danny Dimes is sure he threw some pick sixes,” McAfee said on the show Tuesday. “Yeah, he looked terrible at times. But he doesn't have a completion rate of 47.7. I think he'll show up on everything on time. He said, 'Yeah, I'm an NFL quarterback. I'm going to be an expert.”

“Even so, that's a good thing [Anthony Richardson] It's good to see that, or the 27-year-old gets paid $14 million as a starting quarterback in the NFL. ”

After being released by the Giants in November, Jones, who chose the Colts instead of returning to the Vikings where he spent half of last season, is expected to start week one in competition with Richardson.

Richardson, the fourth pick in the 2023 draft, was disappointed in two NFL seasons, throwing 13 intercepts with just 11 touchdowns in the air while missing 19 games due to various injuries.

In his eighth week game against the division rival Texans, Richardson cited fatigue and pulled out of the game, with some questioning the young signal's commitment.

Richardson was benched the next two weeks in favor of veteran Joe Fraco.

In the Tuesdat segment, McAfee appeared to be open to the idea that Colts would trade quarterbacks from the former franchise.

“If you're one of the other 31 teams, remember what you thought of Anthony Richardson,” he said. “Many benefits. The guy has a lot of possibilities. Maybe he's looking for trade. Maybe a new new start somewhere else is something Anthony Richardson needs.”

Jones is about to reestablish himself as the league's starting quarterback.

He was the starter for each of the Giants for his final six seasons after being drafted sixth in 2019 until a sharp departure last fall.

The Duke product went 24-44-1 as a starter, but there is a playoff victory under his belt.

Later last month, Colts general manager Chris Ballard showed the franchise would bring another quarterback to give Richardson “real competition.”

“He has to be the right guy to create real competition, but Ballard said at a press conference at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine. “I think it's a good thing for the team.

“I think it's a good thing for Anthony.”
