Patrick Kane Makes History
Patrick Kane, at 37 years of age, has made his mark in the NHL. He has surpassed Hockey Hall of Famer Mike Modano to become the all-time leading scorer among U.S.-born players.
In a recent game against the Capitals, which ended in a 4-3 shootout loss for the Red Wings, Kane recorded an assist during the second period. This brought his career total to 1,375 points, edging out Modano, who played for 21 seasons in the NHL.
After Kane’s assist, his teammates quickly gathered around him in celebration, while fans in the arena stood to applaud the achievement.
This milestone marks Kane’s second significant accomplishment this month. Earlier, on January 8, he reached the landmark of 500 career goals during a 5-1 victory against the Canucks.
“Honestly, I’m a bit relieved it’s over,” Kane expressed to the media. “It’s still a pretty cool feeling, though.”
Kane also scored an empty-net goal later in the game, which contributed to his impressive record.
Reflecting on the moment, he mentioned, “When the nets are empty, I’m usually not on the ice. I was glad I got that chance. Hearing the crowd cheer when I stepped on the ice was something special.” He added, “Getting the puck and scoring felt great.”
Now in his 19th season, the Buffalo native has already claimed three Stanley Cup titles and notably was the first American to receive the Hart Memorial Trophy during his time with the Blackhawks in 2015-16.
Despite a remarkably successful career, Kane isn’t planning to retire just yet. Back in April 2025, he stated, “I don’t plan on quitting anytime soon.”
