Patrick Mahomes caught on hot-mic asking refs for help — but in the way it seemed

No, CBS probably didn't catch the smoking gun that the NFL was actually cheating, despite what some football fans would like to believe.

When the referee was calling a penalty in the second quarter, Mike caught Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes “Can you tell me if he's nearby?” Tell me, tell me. ”

Fans on social media were quick to speculate that Mahomes may have been asking the referee to let him know that a defender was coming towards him.

CBS analyst Trent Green seems to think so, too.

But others were quick to point out that it was more likely that Mahomes would have called for a heads-up if one of his linemen was about to receive an offsides penalty.

Former Chiefs lineman Mitchell Schwartz wrote: The same goes for social media.

“I think the announcers misread the comment, 'Let me know when he approaches,'” Schwartz wrote. “My guess is that Pat was asking him to let him know if the jawan was close to being offside. I don't think it has anything to do with the defender being near him.”

But that won't stop some fans from believing what they want.

But in the end, it was a blocked field goal in the final minute that gave the Chiefs the victory on Sunday.

Kansas City managed to block a 35-yard attempt against the Broncos, earning a 16-14 victory as the Chiefs remained undefeated on the season.

“Please tell this entire team.” Mahomes said of the blocked field goal. “I felt like we didn't perform well enough offensively. … The second half and the special teams stepped up defensively. We were a complete team, we were all guys, and it was a special moment.”
