Patrick Mahomes' grandfather passed away just five days after Super Bowl 2025.
Patrick's mother, Randy Mahomes, broke the news on Instagram on Friday.
“It's difficult to find the word “holding my father's hand when he goes to heaven,” Randy wrote in the announcement. “I know he's in a better place. I love Daddy. Well done, a good and loyal servant!”
Martin's health had declined for some time.
In September, Randy posted, “He's in the hospital and isn't well,” asking for prayers.
Details of his illness were unknown.
Randy provided an update on her father's health on January 24th, when Martin announced he had joined Hospice Care.
“My dad is in the hospice and I am lost by words,” she said.
Martin “was hanging,” hoping to see his grandson play at Super Bowl 2025, as the Chiefs chose three peats, Randy said a few days before the match.
Mahomes is in the middle of a Hall of Fame career and has already won three Super Bowls at the age of 29.
“I know it means a lot to him,” Randy said before the Super Bowl. “He must be a very proud grandpa.
Mahomes vowed to make up for his biased loss to the Eagles.
“Thank you for all the love and support from #chiefskingdom.
“I always keep working, learn, learn, and make it better. I want to thank God for every opportunity God has given me. He wrote to his social media followers after the game. ”
