Patrick Mahomes didn't want to speak in turn about Travis Kelce's future in the NFL.
Speculation began to wobble as to whether Sunday's Super Bowl 2025 loss would be his last in the league, but Mahomes was asked about what's next for his teammate.
“I'll let Travis make that decision myself, a man,” Mahomes said after the chiefs lost 40-22 to the Eagles. “He gave this team and the NFL a lot and was so happy that I didn't just work, but people could see. He still had a lot of football left for him. You know there is. You can see it. He always plays at the biggest moments, but that's what he's going out there playing 20 games and reaching the Super Bowl Because it's a grind.
“He's a guy in the gold jacket and does enough to become the first Barott Hall of Fame, but I know he still loves the game.”
Kelse played a quiet game on Sunday in a Super Bowl defeat.
The tight end made four catches on six targets for 39 yards and did not score a touchdown.
Kelse spoke temporarily with reporters after the match but did not deal with his future.

He spoke about the topic early in the week during the Super Bowl opening night.
“We'll see what happens,” Kelse said. “I know I'm preparing myself for other opportunities in my life. It's always been to know that I know that football will last for a long time. Another career And I have to find a way to enter another profession. I'm doing it in the offseason.”
