Patriots’ Tough Loss to Bills
The New England Patriots faced a disappointing defeat against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, having led by 21 points at one stage but ultimately missing out on both the win and the AFC East title.
The game was marked by some controversial pass interference calls against the Patriots’ defense, which drew criticism, particularly from cornerback Carlton Davis. He expressed concerns about the officiating during crucial moments in the match.
Davis was penalized for defensive pass interference on the Bills’ first scoring drive, a call he felt was somewhat delayed. “You see how late the flag was unveiled,” he told reporters. “If it’s a flag, it’s definitive. Throw the flag, for instance. In a close game like this, you’ve got to let us play, you know?” It seems many shared his sentiment regarding the timing of the penalties.
In his frustration, Davis remarked that the stakes were high, noting, “It’s frustrating. You know what’s at risk. This game is very close, and it comes down to centimeters. At that moment, you either throw the flag or you don’t. It takes less than 10 seconds.”
Unfortunately for the Patriots, one of Davis’s penalties allowed the Bills to keep advancing. Just a few plays later, James Cook scored an 11-yard touchdown, putting Buffalo ahead 35-31, a lead they maintained for the remainder of the game.
New England faced a total of seven penalties that cost them 65 yards. Reflecting on the first half, the Bills struggled a bit, but they came back strong, outscoring the Patriots 28-7 in the second half.
