Stefon Diggs Faces Legal Troubles After Super Bowl
New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs is navigating a challenging situation following a disappointing Super Bowl. Just days after the Patriots’ 29-13 defeat to the Seattle Seahawks, Diggs, aged 32, pleaded not guilty to felony strangulation and misdemeanor assault and battery charges.
His attorney, Michael Schuster, asserted outside the courthouse that Diggs is “completely innocent” of what he termed “false allegations.” Confidence in Diggs’ eventual exoneration was expressed, as Schuster mentioned they are hopeful the evidence will clear Diggs’ name.
Initially, he was set to appear in court on January 23, just prior to the AFC title game. However, this appearance was postponed due to prior commitments.
According to police statements documented in court, a woman reported to the Dedham Police on December 16 that two weeks prior, while working as a personal chef for Diggs, an argument concerning payment escalated. The woman claimed Diggs “punched her in the face” and then allegedly attempted to strangle her by bending his elbow around her neck.
A police officer quoted her as saying she was struggling to breathe and felt like she might lose consciousness. The incident purportedly occurred after Diggs pushed her onto a bed during the argument. The woman reportedly sought payment for the week Diggs had to leave due to hosting obligations. She explained that after leaving the Dedham residence, when she returned on December 9 to collect her belongings, Diggs introduced her to his assistant and insisted she sign a non-disclosure agreement before he would pay her. She chose not to sign it.
Although hesitant to pursue charges initially, she ultimately decided to move forward with the criminal complaint late in December, indicating a change of heart just days before she reached out to authorities.
Meanwhile, Diggs had a quiet performance at the Super Bowl, making just three receptions for 37 yards. There have been whispers regarding his relationship with Cardi B, with speculation that they might have called it quits during the game. Cardi B was seen socializing with Jessica Alba during the halftime performance.
In a related note, Patriots teammate Christian Barmore is also dealing with legal issues, with his own hearing scheduled for March 9.
