Olympic Hockey Buzz: Bissonnette Predicts Exciting Showdown

Former NHL enforcer and current media figure Paul Bissonnette anticipates an exhilarating competition for Olympic gold on the ice.

In an exclusive chat with the press, the “Spittin’ Chicklets” podcast host discussed Team Canada, which is seen as the frontrunner in the tournament according to DraftKings.

Canada’s odds are set at +115, while Team USA follows closely at +175.

“Go for Canada, man,” Bissonnette laughed, expressing his hopes for Canada to defeat the U.S. in the finals. “I’d love to see a 7-1 win and remind everyone we’re a dominant hockey nation… Sidney Crosby leads us. He’s been at this for two decades, folks. Go, Canada!”

Bissonnette shared his thoughts on what a matchup between these two powerhouses might entail.

“Canada needs strong goaltending from the start; otherwise, it could become a big issue. Then, it’s all about figuring out the lines and what works best. Usually, the top players in the NHL play center,” he mentioned.

“The challenge for the Canadian squad is figuring out where to place the centers who can’t take that role. Are they okay playing as wingers? That’s something I’m keen to see in Canada. Making those small adjustments is key as they head into the medal rounds.”

Bissonnette also took a moment to analyze Team USA, suggesting that this lineup could be the strongest they’ve ever had.

“You know a team is good when you have to make tough decisions about power plays. Do you want to go with four forwards or put in someone like Zach Werenski? They opted for players like JT Miller and others who can definitely disrupt the opposing lineup, especially against Canadian forwards,” he explained.

Looking at potential dark horses in the tournament, Bissonnette pointed out Slovakia, especially after their stunning win against Finland, making Group B an exciting one to watch.

Additionally, he mentioned Germany as another team to keep an eye on, noting the skills of Oilers superstar Leon Draisaitl.

Can Draisaitl Shine?

Bissonnette questioned, “Can Draisaitl really make a significant impact?” However, he acknowledged that Germany will face a tough challenge against Team USA in Group C.
