Paul Pelosi faces hit-and-run charges in Napa Valley

Paul Pelosi, husband of Nancy Pelosi, faces charges related to a hit-and-run incident that took place over the Fourth of July weekend.

The Napa County District Attorney, Alison Haley, filed charges on Friday, which include one misdemeanor for hit-and-run driving and another for an unlawful turn.

Photos from the California Post reveal the Tesla that Pelosi reportedly collided with before leaving the scene.

The 86-year-old former House Speaker’s husband was involved in the accident on July 3, when he allegedly crashed his brown convertible into a parked vehicle and subsequently fled the location. This occurred around 2:30 p.m. on Yount Street in Yountville, according to authorities.

A witness contacted 911, alerting officers to the vehicle heading north that struck a parked car, causing considerable damage and knocking the right tire onto the curb.

It appears that the car paused briefly after the crash before departing.

After being located by the police, Pelosi acknowledged hitting something but claimed he couldn’t recall what it was. He continued driving until his car broke down.

Law enforcement found him at an intersection in Yountville, where his damaged vehicle was partially obstructing the road.

Interestingly, authorities stated that alcohol was not a factor in the collision. A preliminary screening indicated a blood alcohol level of 0.00, ruling out the possibility of driving under the influence.

Both Paul and Nancy Pelosi provided statements promptly following the incident.

A spokesperson for Pelosi mentioned that he personally apologized to the owner of the other vehicle and assured him he would take responsibility for any damages incurred.

However, the spokesperson added that Speaker Pelosi would refrain from further commenting on this personal issue.

This isn’t the first incident for Paul Pelosi; he was previously arrested for drunk driving after a crash in Napa County in May 2022.

In that case, he had just dined with a Democratic supporter before driving home. He collided with a Jeep while crossing State Route 29, resulting in an alcohol content reading of 0.082%. He later pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of DUI causing injury.

In August 2022, he was sentenced to five days in jail and required to pay $6,800 in fines and restitution, complete a DUI program, and undergo three years of probation.

Pelosi’s history includes a tragic incident in 1957 when, at 16, he lost control of a sports car, resulting in his older brother’s death. A police officer noted that his brother had advised him to drive cautiously just before the accident.

This incident transpired during a joyride in the early hours, which ended with the car overturning. While David was tragically killed, Paul managed to escape and sought help.

Initially charged with a misdemeanor count of manslaughter, he was ultimately found not guilty by a coroner’s jury.

Pelosi has faced other minor traffic violations in the past, including running a red light and crossing the center line.
