Paul Pierce makes a strong statement regarding his status in NBA history

Pierce Declares Himself Best Pure Scorer in NBA History

Paul Pierce recently stirred the pot by claiming he’s the best pure scorer in NBA history, making waves during his appearance on FS1’s “Speak” show.

“I was probably the best pure scorer in league history,” he stated confidently. He was responding to a discussion about whether Kevin Durant holds that title, a topic that came up after LeBron James shared his own thoughts during a podcast with KD and Steve Nash.

Pierce felt the need to throw his hat in the ring, saying, “I need to be involved in this conversation.” He brought up a playful exchange with Hall of Famer Keyshawn Johnson. When Johnson prompted him with questions about his skills—like shooting from the elbow or hitting three-pointers—Pierce enthusiastically affirmed he could do all of that.

The conversation took a spirited tone as Johnson continued to ask about backing down defenders and turning. Pierce remained adamant, reiterating his capabilities.

Interestingly, Pierce acknowledged that, statistically, he shot less efficiently than Durant—who boasts a career field goal percentage of .554 compared to Pierce’s .500. “I shot worse than Kevin,” Pierce admitted, “but he’s seven feet tall; anyone can shoot over a defender at that height.”

Despite this concession, Pierce still holds in high regard Durant’s shooting ability and overall efficiency, calling attention to how KD uses his height to his advantage. “All the matchups and how he shoots the ball—it’s efficient. So you can see why LeBron says it,” Pierce remarked, slighting James with a firm, “Come on, Bron.”
