Ken Paxton is taking jabs at his Democrat rival, James Talarico, for seemingly vanishing from the campaign scene as Election Day approaches.
Talarico, who is vying for a U.S. Senate seat in Texas, has recently stopped showing up at campaign events. He issued a statement noting that he caught the flu after engaging with so many supporters.
Paxton shared with his supporters at a Trump rally in San Antonio, “Where is Talarico?” They joined in chanting this, amplifying the criticism as the campaign reaches its final weeks.
According to reports, Talarico’s last public appearance was on September 26 during a press conference.
A spokesperson for Talarico commented on his absence, explaining that after more than a hundred public events and shaking countless hands, he fell ill but is expected to be back on the campaign trail this weekend.
The spokesperson also stated, “Ken Paxton has been ignoring Texans this entire campaign, prioritizing his billionaire backers and special interests instead of answering to the people of this state.”
Meanwhile, President Donald Trump took to social media with a post ridiculing Talarico’s lack of visibility during the campaign.
“Ladies and Gentlemen, upon information and belief, James TalaFREAKo, who is running for the United States Senate in Texas, is MISSING IN ACTION!” Trump wrote. He further questioned, “No one has seen him for an extended period of time. Where is he? What is wrong with him?”
Paxton also shared images on social media featuring posters that comically labeled Talarico as a missing person, stating, “Missing posters are popping up across Texas as the search continues.” He added, “LAST SEEN: 12 days ago. Texans everywhere are asking: where is James Talarico?”
Democrats aim to flip this seat in Texas to help regain control of the U.S. Senate and impede the president’s agenda in his final term. However, there are growing concerns among black and Hispanic communities regarding whether Talarico’s campaign has adequately engaged with these voters.
