Controversial Comments by Texas Pediatrician
Recently, a pediatrician in Texas made headlines for comments she shared on social media regarding victims of a devastating flood. According to Click2Houston, the physician suggested that those affected were Trump supporters who were somehow deserving of their fate.
Dr. Christina Propst later addressed her comments, which had been deleted, in a statement posted on her personal Facebook page. She expressed regret, stating, “I am deeply sorry to you, my mother, my neighbor, my pediatrician and I am fully responsible for the social media comments I made before I knew that so many precious lives would be lost in the terrible tragedy of central Texas.”
She acknowledged the pain her words had caused, clarifying that her comments were not a response to the tragic loss of life. “But the words written are mine,” she added, “and regardless of how they are presented, I deeply regret it.”
Propst also noted that her political beliefs never interfered with her patient care, according to her statement.
In a subsequent Facebook post, she commented more broadly about the flood. Referring to Kerr County residents, she reiterated, “[got] What they voted for.” She urged everyone, including non-voters and pets, to stay safe and dry, while mentioning the local government’s stance on climate change.
Dr. Propst was affiliated with Blue Fish Pediatrics, which publicly condemned her remarks, stating they did not align with the practice’s values. The flood, which occurred over the July 4th weekend, tragically resulted in the loss of over a hundred lives, as reported by the Associated Press.
