A man convicted by a federal jury of brutally attacking the husband of then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) in their home was sentenced Friday in a state trial.
David DePape was convicted of kidnapping, false imprisonment, intimidation of a public servant and theft in the attack on Paul Pelosi at his San Francisco home in 2022. The jury began deliberations on Tuesday and the verdict was delivered. FOX San Francisco report.
“Speaker Pelosi and her family remain in awe of my father’s bravery, which shone through on the testimony stand at this trial just as it did on the night of the attack when he saved his own life,” a Pelosi spokesman said in a statement. “Throughout nearly 20 grueling months, Mr. Pelosi has demonstrated extraordinary courage and fortitude throughout his recovery.”

“Speaker Pelosi and her family will refrain from making any further substantive comment until after the verdict has been reached,” the spokesperson added.
A San Francisco Superior Court judge previously dismissed charges against DePape, including attempted murder, elder abuse and assault with a deadly weapon, over concerns of double punishment for having been convicted in federal court for the same attack.
DePape was convicted of assault in federal court in May and sentenced to 30 years in prison.

The attack, recorded on police body camera, took place days before the 2022 midterm elections. DePape broke into Pelosi’s home in the early morning hours of October 28, 2022, yelling, “Where’s Nancy?” She was in Washington, DC at the time.
He used a hammer to attack Paul Pelosi, leaving her with two head wounds, including a fractured skull, which she was treated with plates and screws but will remain permanently wounded, as well as injuries to her right arm and hand.
During his federal trial, DePape’s lawyers told jurors his client had isolated himself in the months before the attack and was deeply invested in conspiracy theories. They said DePape never intended to kill Paul Pelosi but “went on an irrational rant” as part of a misguided plan.
