Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on Friday blasted former President Trump for his attacks on Vice President Harris’ intelligence work.
“I’m not listening to him,” Pelosi told MSNBC host Joy Reid on her show “The Reidout.” “It’s pathetic.”
Trump, speaking to reporters at his Mar-a-Lago resort on Thursday, said Harris “is not smart enough to do a press conference.” The former president’s campaign has criticized her for not listening to questions from reporters since she launched her campaign last month.
Governor Harris answered several questions from reporters accompanying her in Michigan on Thursday, saying she hopes to do extended interviews before the end of August.
“She is the perfect person to run for president of the United States and lead us to victory,” Pelosi said of Harris. “And she happens to be a woman, which makes it even better.”
Harris has garnered a lot of enthusiasm and energy from within her party following President Biden’s decision to drop out of the presidential race. The Hill newspaper reported that Pelosi had been privately pressuring Biden to drop out of the race, though she has denied trying to do so.
“No, I was not a leader of any pressure party,” Pelosi said in a recent interview. “Now, let me tell you what I didn’t do. I didn’t call anybody. I didn’t call anybody. I could have always said to him, ‘I didn’t call anybody.’ What I’m saying is, I was confident that the president would make the right choice for our country, whatever it was, and that’s why I said, ‘Whatever it is, we’ll go with it.'”
The vice president is currently neck and neck with the former president, with Harris just 0.2 points behind Trump, in the Hill/Decision Desk average of national polls.
The Hill has reached out to the Trump campaign.
