Pelosi demands the arrest of ICE agents, Trump administration responds

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s recent remarks advocating for the arrest of federal ICE agents have stirred significant backlash and led to a formal warning from the Trump administration.

This week, Pelosi, a California Democrat, stated that local police could potentially “arrest federal officers if they violate California law,” adding, “If they are convicted, the president cannot pardon them.” She made these comments in a joint statement with Rep. Kevin Mullin.

Her comments reflect a broader Democratic push to scrutinize federal immigration actions, particularly as the Trump administration intensifies enforcement efforts.

In response, Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche firmly disagreed, asserting that local authorities do not have the jurisdiction to detain federal employees while they carry out their duties.

Blanche emphasized on “Fox & Friends” that any attempt to interfere with federal employees doing their jobs could be considered illegal. He referenced a letter sent to top officials in California, including Pelosi and Governor Gavin Newsom, which warned against interfering with federal operations and labeled such arrests as “illegal and wasteful.”

These statements from Pelosi echo similar criticisms from other Democratic figures, like Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker. He remarked that if ICE officers are indeed acting improperly, accountability is lacking at all levels of oversight.

Pritzker’s remarks pointed out that no ICE personnel have faced consequences for their actions, calling out what he sees as systemic failures within the agency.

Blanche argued that Pelosi and Pritzker’s remarks compromise national security, suggesting that they could ultimately harm the country.

Pritzker also accused ICE officers of racial profiling, arguing their focus should be on removing violent criminals rather than engaging in biased enforcement.

In light of these discussions, Blanche dismissed accusations against federal agents as “disgusting,” standing by their constitutional integrity and reinforcing that courts support their actions against claims made by Democratic leaders. He insisted that the narrative being pushed about ICE agents engaging in improper conduct is simply untrue.
