Pelosi jabs Schumer over vote to avoid government shutdown

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif) took a shot last week to Senate minority Chuck Schumer (D-NY) on Tuesday to avoid government shutdowns in order to avoid the government's shutdown in response to a controversial vote with Republicans.

Pelosi declared at a news conference in San Francisco that he is confident in Schumer's ability to lead the Democratic Caucus in the Senate in the future, but claimed that Brooklyn Democrats have made too many concessions to Republicans.

“I myself give nothing for nothing.” Pelosi said. “I think that's what happened the other day.”

“In my opinion, I probably got it [Republicans] To agree to the third method,” she added, referring to the final groove proposal by Congressional Democrats, and to the final groove proposal to extend current government spending for 30 days as long-term bill negotiations took place.

“They may not have agreed to that, but at least the public would have seen them not agree to it — then [Republicans] They would have shut down the government,” Pelosi insisted.

The former House Speaker ignored Schumer and appealed to Senate Democrats hours before last week's vote to vote against the six-month spending bill.

“Donald Trump and Elon Musk have provided Congress with a false choice between shutting down governments or blank checks that devastatingly attack the well-being of working families across America,” Pelosi said in a statement.

“[T]His false choices, which he is buying instead of fighting, are unacceptable,” she added.

Schumer, who has been criticised entirely by leftist lawmakers over the vote, defended the decision on “view” on Tuesday, claiming that the shutdown would have produced “a devastation we've never seen.”

Schumer said on Friday that he “knowed that it was a difficult choice” to vote to end the debate on the so-called “continued resolution” but added, “I felt like a leader who had to do that.”

Despite his jab at Schumer, Pelosi claimed he was moving forward from the fight for shutdown.

“Next time I'm worried, I'm worried about the future,” said the California Democrat. “What happened last week was last week. We'll be in the future.”

Pelosi said minority leader Hakem Jeffries (D-NY) appeared with Schumer at the event Tuesday and also expressed his support for Senate Democratic leaders.
