Pelosi on Trump hoping economy crashes in 2024: ‘Doesn’t know what that means to America’s working’

Former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) criticized former President Donald Trump for saying he hoped the economy would collapse within the next 12 months, a comment that drew widespread criticism from Democrats.

“He calls himself the savior,” Pelosi said Monday night on MSNBC's “Inside with Jen Psaki.” “He doesn't seem to know much about the Messiah.”

The Democratic congressman continued: “He says he wants the economy to collapse. I don't think he understands what that means for working families in America.”

Earlier on Monday, President Trump took aim at the current economy under President Biden, predicting it would collapse. Trump, the Republican presidential front-runner who is looking forward to a rematch with Biden in the November election, is likely to fall in the next 12 months before the end of Biden's first term and before the start of his next presidential term. He said he hopes that will happen. .

President Trump has said he does not want to be elected and serve a term similar to President Hoover, who took office in 1929, when the economy seemed stable just months before the Great Depression began.

President Trump told interviewer Lou Dobbs: “Our economy is so fragile that the only reason it's going on right now is because we're blowing up smoke from what we've done.” “It's just smoke pouring out.”

President Trump added: “And I hope that happens over the next 12 months because I don't want to be Herbert Hoover when the crash happens.” The only president I don't want to be is Herbert Hoover. ”

Pelosi called President Trump's comments “just another display of the insensitivity and grotesqueness of this person,” saying the Republican presidential candidate only cares about his own political prospects and not what's good for the American people. He argued that it shows that

“He doesn't care what it means for the bottom line of working American families. Perhaps some of his wealthy friends are turning his back on him because they don't want to pay taxes. “The people who are pouring money into his campaign may realize his incompetence because he doesn't understand economics,” she said.

Despite President Trump's comments, many economists say the economic outlook is positive, given the apparent success of the “soft landing” after record high inflation. White House and Biden campaign aides on Monday fired back at Trump's comments, calling them “despicable” and “revealing his distorted true nature.”

Pelosi, who has battled Trump for years over a myriad of issues, also criticized him for taking credit for the positive aspects of the current economy.

“That was a stupid comment on his part,” she said on MSNBC. “He also made false statements. We are not living off his fumes.”

“Joe Biden has done a great job as President of the United States. Latest reports show there are about 14 million jobs right now, and probably more. Lowest unemployment rate. Cut it in half. “The path of inflation will be downward,” she continued.

“[Biden] was remarkable. And he did it in a way that was just on all fronts: socially, economically, environmentally,” Pelosi added. “This person will never understand that.”
