Pelosi Slams New York Times for Making Up News on Her Remarks on Biden

Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) The New York Times After his lackluster debate performance, in which he accused her of misinterpreting comments about whether President Joe Biden should leave office in 2024, it illustrates just how tough this week is for his continued viability as a presidential candidate.

The former House speaker’s office issued a scathing statement after the paper reported that Pelosi, in an MSNBC interview, suggested Biden “reconsider” his decision to continue the campaign, making her the most senior Democrat to do so so far.

“The President is brilliant. Some of what I said has been misunderstood,” the statement said. The New York Times It begins, “I have never said that the President should reconsider his decision. It is the President’s decision. I don’t know what happened that the New York Times would fabricate news. It’s not true.”

“It’s up to the president to decide whether he wants to run. We’re all urging him to make that decision because time is running out,” the article quoted the former speaker as saying.

She also said, “We want him to do whatever he decides. That’s the way it is. Whatever he decides, we will follow it.”
