Penn State coach goes off on NCAA after over transfer portal

Penn State head coach James Franklin called on the NCAA to establish leadership in college football after expressing frustration with landings in the transfer market during the College Football Playoff.

Penn State will host SMU in the first round on Dec. 21 college playoffs They remained within the 12-team field, but were crippled by the announcement that backup quarterback Beau Pribula would be entering the transfer portal at the same time.

Pribula took a leadership role and performed well in place of usual starting QB Drew Aller. But on Monday, Aller announced he would return to Penn State in 2025, forcing Pribula to take a chance in the transfer portal to take the No. 1 quarterback spot at another school.

Coach Franklin stopped the question in a recent press conference by asking, “Who is actually running college football and making the decisions that are best for our student-athletes and our sport as a whole?”

Franklin continued: “There's just a lot of things that just don't make sense when you have a big transfer portal free agency in the middle of the playoffs.”

Franklin said it's “pretty clear” the NCAA needs a commissioner who isn't influenced by college football committees and conference finances.

“We need someone to run college football. We need someone who isn't biased based on conference and isn't financially influenced by conference. So I think that's what college football in general is going to be right now. “I'm concerned.'' Be honest. ”

“I don’t think that’s in the best interest of the student-athletes.”

“The alignment of the CFB playoff and transfer portal timelines forced us to make an impossible decision,” he said. CBS Sports.

Coach Franklin openly claimed Pribula “didn't want to leave” the Penn State program but was in a “no-win” situation.

“I agree with him,” Franklin revealed. “I don't think that's in the best interest of the student-athlete. Bo should not be put in this position.”

The Penn State coach signed a 10-year contract with $85 million guaranteed in 2021, Sports Illustrated reported. reported. Then, once the College Football Playoff was established, they received even more incentives.

The transfer window opens on December 9th and closes on December 28th.
