A school security guard in Pennsylvania has been accused of providing marijuana edibles and e-cigarettes to middle school students and smoking marijuana with minors.
Kiara Lee, 26, was arrested Tuesday. Lee was charged with two felony counts of possession of narcotics with intent to sell, two misdemeanor counts of corruption of minors and two misdemeanor counts of possession of marijuana, according to court records reviewed by the U.S. District Attorney’s Office. Lee is a crossing guard at Pennwood Middle School in Derby, Pennsylvania, but she was suspended and banned from the school after disturbing allegations surfaced.

Officials said the student alleged that Lee distributed e-cigarettes and frequently smoked marijuana with crossing guards, and that he also distributed e-cigarettes to other students on three occasions.
A student witness reported to school officials that he saw Lee provide drugs and e-cigarettes to at least two students on multiple occasions. A second witness reportedly confirmed the allegations against Lee.
School officials reported the alleged crime to the Derby Borough Police Department.
Officers interviewed the student’s parents, who allegedly admitted to investigators that Lee had given their children e-cigarettes and marijuana edibles.
Police allegedly found text messages between the minor and Lee that confirmed they had consumed marijuana edibles and discussed their experiences with the drug.
Derby Borough Mayor Joseph Gabe Said“Marijuana may not seem like a big deal to some in our community, but I think we can all agree that crossing guards should not be offering drugs to kids, even if it’s ‘just’ marijuana.”
“School crossing guards embody the role of public servant. They are literally entrusted with the lives of children and hold sacred positions of trust in communities across our state and the country,” added Delaware County District Attorney Jack Stollstamer.
In a statement released by Derby Borough Council on Wednesday, the council said: “Derby Borough Council is deeply troubled by the allegations set out in the probable cause affidavit concerning Chiara Lee. We have suspended Ms. Lee and banned her from our premises, pending the outcome of an internal investigation. We would like to thank the officers at Derby Borough Police Station for their dedication to keeping our community safe.”

The William Penn School District is heartbroken that a Derby Borough employee serving our district and community would commit such reprehensible acts. We thank Police Chief Joseph Gabe and the Derby Police Department, and District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer and his office for pursuing this case and announcing charges against the suspect. The William Penn School District seeks to support our students and will work with the victim and her family to provide assistance at this time. As the suspect is not an employee of our district, we will not be making any further comment.
Lee is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing on June 14.
