Pennsylvania Teacher Charged for Inappropriate Relationship with Student
In a concerning case from Pennsylvania, a middle school teacher is facing serious allegations of sending nude photos to a 14-year-old student, which could lead to a prison term of up to seven years.
Ashley Autumn Mongel, 30, reportedly asked the boy to confirm if a message had disappeared. The investigation ramped up when the Pennsylvania State Police’s Computer Crime Unit was alerted last Thursday regarding communication between Mongel and accounts associated with the juvenile, following tips related to missing and exploitation cases.
According to police, the student revealed that he and Mongel exchanged nude images through Snapchat after authorities obtained a subpoena. Reports indicate that these details came to light during the Attorney General’s inquiry.
Mongel mentioned that the boy was in her eighth-grade class at Connellsville Area Middle School, located about 50 miles south of Pittsburgh last year, as stated in a complaint. She also confessed to sending a completely nude image, which was later discovered on the teenager’s phone.
The affidavit highlights that their communication spanned multiple platforms, including Instagram and Snapchat.
Mongel has been charged with “unlawful contact with a minor,” a felony that may result in significant prison time. Fayette County District Attorney Mike Obere revealed in a statement that her charges were formally brought to attention on Friday.
In response to the allegations, the school has placed Mongel on administrative leave effective immediately. Principal Richard Evans informed parents that the Connellsville Regional School District had been made aware of the situation by the Pennsylvania State Police.
In his communication, Evans acknowledged the troubling nature of the news, reassuring families that student safety and well-being remain a top priority for the district. He emphasized their commitment to collaborate fully with law enforcement on the matter.
Mongel was arrested on Friday and is currently held at Fayette County Jail with a bail set at $40,000. A court appearance is scheduled for September 24th.
