Pentagon to Investigate After Senator’s Controversial Video
The Pentagon has announced it will investigate following remarks made by Senator Mark Kelly from Arizona. In a recent video with five other Democrats, Kelly urged military personnel to disregard what he referred to as “unlawful” orders from the Trump administration. This statement has prompted concern within the Department of the Army, which confirmed the investigation on Monday.
In the video, Kelly expressed that the military’s trust with the American public is at stake. He emphasized the oath service members have taken, suggesting they have the right to refuse any illegal orders. While this statement seems to suggest that President Trump had issued such an order, it was noted by Michigan Senator Elissa Slotkin—who shared the video—that she could not specify any illegal directives given by Trump.
Kelly, a retired Navy captain, is still under the Uniform Military Justice Act, which means his conduct can be reviewed under military law. The Army shared that this legal binding may not extend to other military veterans involved in the video. They also reminded that violations of the Uniform Code of Military Justice, particularly those disrupting military loyalty and morale, could trigger legal consequences.
In response to queries, the Pentagon opted not to elaborate further beyond its statement. There was no immediate reply from Kelly’s office regarding the investigation.
