Pentagon Intensifies Inquiry into Sen. Mark Kelly for Serious Misconduct Claims

Investigation Escalation for Sen. Mark Kelly

The Department of the Army is intensifying its probe into retired Navy Colonel Senator Mark Kelly (D-AZ), shifting from a preliminary review to an official command investigation. This follows concern over a video that President Donald Trump and Secretary of the Army Pete Hegseth labeled “inflammatory.”

Officials from the Army first announced the preliminary examination on November 24, regarding the video in which Kelly participated. Fellow Democrats urged military and intelligence leaders to “reject illegal orders” from the Trump administration.

Hegseth criticized the video as “vile, reckless, and false,” referring to Kelly and other Democratic representatives as “the inflammatory six” in various social media posts.

Interestingly, four others involved in the video are former military members, but because they aren’t retired, they are no longer under the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ), according to Hegseth.

Hegseth further argued that encouraging military personnel to disregard their commanders’ orders undermines military discipline and can create confusion.

“Mark Kelly is still subject to the UCMJ, and he knows it,” he stated. “The department is looking into his actions and statements directed at the military while using his rank, which implies authority. Such conduct damages the reputation of the Armed Forces and will be addressed.”

This investigation could lead to various outcomes, potentially including reinstating Kelly to active duty for court-martial or administrative actions.

Officials confirmed to Breitbart News that the probe’s scope has been broadened.

The Army Secretary’s office is collaborating with the Army’s Office of General Counsel to formalize the investigation into Kelly for serious misconduct. In order to maintain the integrity of the process, public comments will be limited.

Command investigations typically arise from allegations of misconduct or indiscipline within military ranks.

On the evening of the announcement, Kelly responded, expressing that the actions of Trump and Hegseth should alarm every patriotic American. He remarked that it wasn’t sufficient for Trump to have suggested he should be hanged, nor for Hegseth to threaten him with a court-martial. Kelly believes their actions undermine everything he served for during his 25 years in the Navy.

“I trust the professionalism of our military, but I have serious doubts about Secretary Hegseth,” he continued. “If they think this will deter me, they’ve got the wrong guy. I will keep advocating for Arizona.”

Trump has shared multiple posts about the contentious video on Truth Social, at one point stating that “sedition deserves the death penalty.” He also retweeted comments implying that historical figures would have advocated harsh consequences for such actions.

More recently, Trump attempted to clarify comments made during a radio interview, insisting that he wasn’t threatening anyone’s life, but he indicated that those involved are in “serious trouble.”

Meanwhile, Kelly’s attorney communicated to the Secretary of the Navy that there isn’t a legitimate basis for any lawsuit against him. He condemned any potential actions from the administration as unconstitutional and warned that they would take legal steps to halt overreach from the executive branch.
