The Trump administration is reportedly nearing the completion of a fresh evaluation of an intelligence report, which indicates a divergence from President Trump’s assertions that recent U.S. airstrikes effectively “decapitated” Iran’s nuclear capabilities last month.
According to a report from NBC News on Thursday, the Fordow nuclear enrichment site has suffered significant damage due to U.S. military actions, but the other two sites, Isfahan and Natanz, have only seen temporary setbacks, as noted by five current and former U.S. officials familiar with the assessments.
On Thursday, a representative from News Nation commented, “The credibility of fake news media is akin to the current state of Iran’s nuclear facilities. There are significant damages, and recovery will take years.” They asserted, “President Trump is clear, and Americans get it. Iran’s nuclear facilities in Fordow, Isfahan, and Natanz have essentially vanished.”
“There is no doubt about that,” the representative added.
The White House has also pushed back against the NBC report.
“As the president stated, experts confirm that the Midnight Hammer operation thoroughly neutralized Iran’s nuclear capabilities,” Vice President Anna Kelly stated. “Thanks to his decisive actions, America and the world are safer.”
A report that emerged shortly after the U.S. conducted a surprise strike on Tehran’s nuclear site stated that Defense Intelligence officials discovered the strike wouldn’t eliminate Iran’s nuclear infrastructure.
The president and his team reportedly pressed for this review to be undertaken.
Further discussions between U.S. and Israeli leaders revolved around whether additional attacks on two undamaged facilities would be necessary if Iran fails to re-engage in nuclear deal negotiations.
The U.S. launched Operation Midnight Hammer on June 21, targeting three significant nuclear facilities amid rising tensions, as Iran and Israel exchanged airstrikes. This Israeli-Iran conflict has stymied U.S. efforts to achieve a nuclear agreement with Tehran, which seeks to prevent the nation from developing nuclear weapons.
