Allegations of Voter Fraud in LA Mayoral Primary
Concerns about voter fraud have emerged following the recent mayoral primary in Los Angeles. Homeless individuals in Skid Row have claimed they were compensated for casting votes for left-leaning candidates.
Notably, Spencer Pratt, who has Republican leanings, will not participate in the jungle primary which allows the top two candidates based on votes to progress to the general election.
Supporters of Mr. Pratt grew increasingly uneasy when initial election night results indicated he was in second place, but this standing changed as additional votes were counted.
On Tuesday morning, a TikTok account associated with Pratt shared a video featuring homeless individuals in downtown LA discussing their voting experiences. One woman, who wished to remain anonymous, mentioned she was offered $2 for her vote for Karen Bass. “Yeah, they come out here all the time,” she added, perhaps implying this wasn’t a rare occurrence.
The TikTok creator noted that a friend who works in the area alerted him about political volunteers operating nearby. Kevin Shepherd, another participant in the video, stated he received $4 to vote for Bass after negotiating from an initial offer of $2, claiming he had been told his vote for Nithya Raman would also be accepted, but not for Pratt.
“They gave you a choice,” Shepherd said. In a similar vein, Rene Johnson, 39, also stated she received $5 for her vote for Bass but expressed uncertainty about the paperwork she signed. “I was just trying to make $5, you know? But I wasn’t scamming you,” she insisted.
However, while investigating her assertions, it was discovered that there was no record of Johnson voting in Skid Row, but she did have a vote registered in nearby Inglewood, which has a different mayor than LA. The newspaper reported that it couldn’t independently verify the claims presented in the video.
“Everyone said it was normal,” the TikTok content creator conveyed.
The Justice Department is reportedly looking into these voter fraud accusations related to the California election. Nonetheless, authorities indicated that claims Pratt did not receive votes were incorrect.
California’s election system has come under fire due to delayed results that surpassed the usual timeframe found in other states. Some people have tried to link these delays to potential fraud, though officials have dismissed these claims.
A report highlighted that 185 individuals who voted for Raman were registered at homeless shelters in Venice, raising questions about their funding and registration processes. While socialist city council members helped secure $600,000 for these shelters, critics noted that such funding wouldn’t account for the significant gap in votes between Pratt and Raman.
