People Misconstrue Biden Rushing Words ‘To Get Said What He Wants Said’ as a Gaffe, He Has a Stutter

On CNN’s “Laura Coates Live” broadcast on Wednesday, Rep. James Clyburn (D-South Carolina), co-chair of the Biden-Harris campaign, argued that people perceive President Joe Biden as too old because they don’t pay enough attention to the fact that he stutters, and “when he rushes through his words to get his point across, people see that as a sign of a gaffe or something, and that resonates with some people.”

When asked why more people think Biden is too old to be president than those who feel the same about 2024 Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, Clyburn said, “Well, I think more people are taking these little statements at face value these days. The reality is, I don’t think people are focusing enough on the things that are always there. For example, Joe Biden had a bad stutter as a child, and he’s tried really hard to overcome it, but you can’t overcome it 100%. And when he rushes through his words to get what he wants to say, people see that as a sign of a slip-up or something, and that resonates with some people. They just don’t seem to let people understand what would happen in their own home or situation if things were a different situation, a different field.”
