PepsiCo Unveils New Snack Options Amid Healthy Diet Movement

As Robert F. Kennedy Jr. champions healthier eating habits, a noteworthy shift is happening at PepsiCo. They’ve launched a new line of snacks that appeals to those looking for simpler options, much to the joy of MAHA enthusiasts.

PepsiCo announced on Thursday the introduction of a product line devoid of artificial colors, which have long been responsible for the vivid hues of Cheetos and Doritos.

“NKD is an additional option, not a replacement, introduced to meet consumer demand,” the company explained.

While their traditional recipes remain unchanged, PepsiCo has rolled out a collection named Simply NKD, specifically crafted without artificial colors. They noted that the development of these snacks was remarkably quick, taking only eight weeks.

Rachel Ferdinand, CEO of PepsiCo Foods US, stated, “Our iconic Cheetos and Doritos remain the same. NKD is not a replacement, but an additive introduced to meet consumer demand. This move is an extension of our flavor leadership.” She emphasized their commitment to expanding choices while upholding the core of their iconic brand.

The newly introduced chips come in recognizable flavors—Doritos offers Cool Ranch and Nacho Cheese, while Cheetos presents Puffs and Flamin’ Hot. However, the new variations have a paler appearance compared to their brightly colored predecessors.

Though they should taste quite similar to the originals, the Simply NKD products feature shorter ingredient lists and omit certain flavor enhancers like disodium inosinate or disodium guanylate.

This initiative by PepsiCo aligns with a broader trend as multiple companies, including In-N-Out, Tyson Foods, Kraft Heinz, and McCormick, have begun to phase out artificial ingredients from their offerings.

Notably, these changes come after the FDA banned Red No. 3 shortly before President Trump’s second term commenced.

In a related comment, HHS directed inquiries to Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s article from July 19, 2025, where he celebrated PepsiCo’s commitment to removing artificial colors and flavors from other products like Lay’s and Tostitos. RFK urged other food brands to consider similar changes, hoping for a collective push towards better health for consumers.

Shoppers can expect to find the new Simply NKD chips on store shelves starting December 1st.
