Protests Lead to Suspension of ICE Operations in Illinois
The immigration and customs enforcement operations as well as detention facilities in Broadview, Illinois, have been put on hold due to protests outside. Julio Rosas from Blaze News captured footage where protesters could be heard shouting phrases like “Arrest ICE!” and “Shoot the ICE!” Several individuals were taken into custody shortly thereafter.
According to a statement from the Department of Homeland Security, one of the arrested protesters was found with a firearm, which law enforcement quickly confiscated.
In the aftermath of violent incidents at the ICE facility in Dallas, a group of over 200 protesters gathered outside the Broadview Processing Center, with some reportedly chanting about filming ICE. DHS Deputy Chief Tricia McLaughlin emphasized that these aggressive threats toward ICE must end in the political discourse of the country.
McLaughlin noted that the rising tensions surrounding ICE in recent months reflect how law enforcement has been portrayed, often using scary narratives that some Democratic politicians have perpetuated, creating a sense of existential threat to the nation.
She also mentioned that the riots and attacks on ICE officers outside the Broadview facility follow what she described as villainous rhetoric from politicians like Governor Pritzker and Mayor Brandon Johnson.
Moreover, McLaughlin urged both Pritzker and Johnson to denounce these riots and to temper their language concerning ICE. She remarked that the protesters seemed well-prepared, arriving with protective gear and plenty of supplies.
