Details Emerge on US Embassy Shooting Suspect
The individual who allegedly shot and killed two staff members at the Israeli embassy in Washington, D.C., has been identified as 31-year-old Elias Rodriguez.
Rodriguez reportedly had a background of supporting Palestinian causes and was vocal against Israel’s actions. This context led to the tragic deaths of Jaron Lisinsky, 30, and Sarah Lynn Milgrim, 26. Just before the incident, he shared a manifesto on X, where he expressed his intentions, titling it “Escalate for Gaza and bring the war home.”
While he did not explicitly mention the act of shooting in his manifesto, he noted that “armed actions are not necessarily military actions, usually not.” His writings reflect a belief that public sentiment against Israel is largely ignored by the US government, which he accused of stifling dissent.
As reported by a prominent news outlet, Rodriguez was a Chicago resident involved in pro-Palestinian events. He was employed by the American Osteopathic Facility Information Association and participated in various social movements.
Additionally, his social media showed him at a pro-Palestinian march in Chicago and at an anti-Amazon protest. His Goodreads account featured reviews focused on topics like politics and history.
It seems that he previously worked as an oral history researcher for a Chicago nonprofit, specializing in documenting the stories of Black Americans. He claimed to have an English degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago and had experience as a content writer.
Images circulating online have depicted Rodriguez at various protests, including those supporting Black Lives Matter, and he reportedly chanted “Free Palestine” shortly after the tragic events.
The victims, Lisinsky and Milgrim, were identified as Messianic Jews engaged in efforts to promote peace in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Lisinsky worked as a researcher with a focus on the Middle East and North Africa, advocating for intercultural understanding.
