California Issues License to Undocumented Driver Linked to Fatal Crash

California, led by Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom, has issued a commercial driver’s license to Rajinder Kumar, an undocumented immigrant from India, who is implicated in a fatal accident that left two dead in Oregon. This information was shared by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

DHS stated on Monday that Kumar, charged with manslaughter and reckless endangerment, entered the country and received work permits through the Biden administration’s policies. In what seems like a tragic coincidence, Kumar managed to jackknife his semi-truck in Deschutes County, Oregon, on November 24 around 9:30 p.m., obstructing both lanes of Highway 20. A Subaru Outback subsequently collided with his truck, resulting in the deaths of driver William Micah Carter and passenger Jennifer Lynn Lower.

The agency reported that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has sought to arrest Kumar, who is currently detained in Deschutes County Jail. “Given that Oregon is a sanctuary state, ICE will pursue all possible avenues to ensure Kumar is detained if released,” DHS remarked.

Kumar is said to have crossed into the U.S. illegally in November 2022 near Lukeville, Arizona. Upon his release by the Biden administration, he received both a work permit and a California commercial driver’s license in 2023. This incident has raised concerns about similar situations where undocumented immigrants granted licenses in sanctuary states have been involved in high-profile accidents.

In another related incident, an illegal immigrant named Harjinder Singh from India made an illegal U-turn on the Florida Turnpike, which led to another tragic collision, killing a driver and two passengers.

ICE has also pursued further actions against other illegal immigrants involved in accidents. For instance, in August, ICE sought to arrest Partap Singh for allegedly causing a multi-vehicle crash in California that severely injured a child. Similarly, Jashanpreet Singh was targeted for driving under the influence in a fatal incident that took three lives.

DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin extended condolences to the families of the victims, William and Jennifer, emphasizing the ongoing risk posed by undocumented individuals driving commercial vehicles. She criticized the policy decisions allowing such individuals to operate large trucks, questioning how many more tragedies are needed for sanctuary politicians to reconsider their stance.

Fox News Digital tried to reach Governor Newsom’s office and the California Department of Transportation for comments but has not yet received a response.
