Person filmed attempting to set raccoon on fire with blowtorch

A video has surfaced from California showing a man attempting to chase and set a raccoon on fire with a blowtorch.

This troubling footage was shared amid concerns that such aggressive acts could lead to further violence against not only animals but potentially humans as well.

In the video, the raccoon is seen darting around a fence, clearly trying to find shelter in some nearby bushes.

Rebecca Fenson, a supervisor from animal care and control, noted, “The raccoon seems to have a burn mark on its back, and after the incident, the man quickly ran away.”

She expressed concern that this individual might have harmed other animals in the past, stating, “His behavior suggests a familiarity with animal cruelty, which is disturbing.” She added, “Those who harm animals often pose a risk to humans too; it’s simply a pattern of violence.”

The footage was recorded on a home security camera, prompting residents to alert local authorities about the incident.

While raccoons can be troublesome and a bit mischievous, they usually don’t pose a direct threat to people or pets. Fenson mentioned that most encounters involve raccoons rummaging through trash cans.

“They can cause some property damage, like scratching walls or porches, but they’re not aggressive; they’re just trying to survive,” she explained.

“The real issue in that video was clearly the human involved,” she concluded.

According to Fenson, the attacker may face charges of misdemeanor wildlife harassment.
