A suspect in a broad daylight attempted rape of a woman sunbathing in Central Park has already been detained for allegedly groping a woman on a subway platform on the Upper West Side, law enforcement sources said Tuesday.
Sources say a 43-year-old man arrested Thursday in connection with the molestation of a woman at West 103rd Street and Central Park West subway station on June 15 may also be involved in a vicious attack on a 21-year-old woman on June 24 at West 104th Street and West Drive.
By Tuesday afternoon, he had not been indicted in the park attack, and the Manhattan district attorney’s office was considering convening a grand jury, according to sources.
“She was sunbathing in Central Park on a nice day,” NYPD Sergeant John Chell told reporters last week about the attack at the iconic green space. “She saw a man approaching her, naked. She stood up, screamed, [starts] Run.”
“He tackled her from behind and got on top of her,” Chell added, “and she bravely fought him off a second time.”
A creepy sketch released by the NYPD shows a creepy man with a dark beard, mustache and curly hair trimmed to his jawline.
The stranger, who police say is in his 30s, has noticeable dark circles under his eyes.
The subway molestation suspect was ordered held on $7,500 cash bail, $10,000 insurance bond or $15,000 partial bond.
In that incident, the man allegedly got behind the woman and grabbed her buttocks underneath her dress, according to the criminal complaint.
