People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals has launched a campaign to persuade people to stop having sex with meat-eaters, after a study found a huge gender gap in vegan diets.

According to a press release, PETA is organizing a national advertising campaign in the hopes that by making romantic attachment less likely, more men will choose a vegan diet over meat.

In 2023, it declared the third installment of the Guardians of the Galaxy series the “best animal rights” movie of the year for its sympathetic portrayal of animal testing. The group also drew attention for its criticism of comedian Pete Davidson, who slammed the group in an expletive-filled rant.

Despite these innovations, meat consumption in the United States has increased dramatically. according to According to the USDA, in 1962, the average American consumed 167.2 pounds of meat per year; by 2022, consumers will consume roughly 227 pounds of meat per year, a 35% increase over 60 years.
The study cited by PETA found that there were only three exceptions to that conclusion: China, India and Indonesia.
