Pete Carroll Out as Seahawks Head Coach, Will Remain as Advisor

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll was one of the longest-tenured coaches in the NFL. However, his tenure as head coach has come to an end.

On Wednesday, the Seahawks announced that Carroll would step down as the team's head coach. However, he will remain with the organization in an advisory role.

“After detailed meetings and careful consideration in the best interests of the franchise, we have amicably agreed with Pete Carroll that his role will evolve from head coach to remain with the organization as an advisor. .”

“Pete is the winningest coach in Seahawks history, led the Seahawks to their first Super Bowl title, and has had a tremendous impact on the field and in the community over the past 14 years.”

The move is a bit of a surprise considering the Seahawks achieved a winning record despite starting QB Geno Smith being off the field for significant amounts of time with an injury. However, at 72 years old, Carroll is the oldest coach in the NFL, so age may have played a role in this decision.

While with the Seahawks, Carroll led Seattle to Super Bowl XLVIII, but narrowly missed out on the championship the following year. His overall record since 2010 is 137 wins, 89 losses, and 1 loss.

Seattle reached the playoffs 10 times in Carroll's 14 seasons.
