Creation of Task Force to Evaluate Military Education

Secretary of the Army Pete Hegseth recently announced the formation of a task force aimed at assessing senior military colleges. The goal is to ensure these institutions deliver high-quality education free from what he perceives as “woke” ideologies.

In a statement, Hegseth expressed, “Professional military education should produce fighters and leaders, not woke men.” He emphasized the need for a clear focus on combat training, stating that the task force would concentrate on evaluating the Senior Service College.

Hegseth’s remarks included a video where he instructed the Under Secretary of the Army for Personnel and Preparedness to establish this task force promptly. He mentioned various educational institutions like the Army War College and the National Defense University, noting that these places are integral for developing senior officers.

He expressed a strong commitment to ensure that values and curricula found in civilian educational settings do not infiltrate military training. Hegseth acknowledged existing courses and ideologies within some military colleges that he believes need to be addressed. “This task force will have 90 days to evaluate whether our military colleges are actually effective,” he stated.

Moreover, he pointed out the importance of preparing universities to fulfill their mission if staff from private institutions are brought in, especially if they are deemed “too woke.”

Hegseth’s announcement comes amidst ongoing U.S. military operations concerning Iran, solidifying the urgency of his initiative.
