Pete Hegseth states that the US is prepared to resume attacks on Iran if a deal is not achieved

On Saturday, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth stated that the U.S. is ready to resume military actions against Iran if ongoing negotiations fail to resolve key differences between Washington and Tehran.

While in Singapore, he remarked, “We have plenty of capacity to reopen if necessary,” reinforcing the idea that the U.S. stockpiles are well-suited for such a scenario, both domestically and internationally.

Addressing attendees at the Shangri-La Dialogue, a significant gathering for defense leaders and diplomats in Asia, Hegseth emphasized that the U.S. remains committed to the Asia-Pacific region, despite being engaged in the conflict with Iran.

He noted, “We can do two things at once,” highlighting efforts to significantly bolster the defense industrial base. The production of munitions is ramping up impressively—two, three, even four times as much—ensuring operational programs worldwide are adequately funded.

He also mentioned that President Trump is “patient” and aims for a substantial deal that prevents Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.

Recently, President Trump indicated that he would convene in a secure room at the White House to make “final decisions” regarding a strategy to conclude the war with Iran. This meeting is set to extend the ceasefire initiated in early April by another 60 days, allowing negotiators time to work towards a more permanent resolution.

The conflict, which began on February 28 through U.S. and Israeli military actions, has resulted in significant casualties, primarily affecting people in Iran and Lebanon. Additionally, the conflict has caused a global economic ripple effect, with Iran’s blockade of the Strait of Hormuz leading to skyrocketing energy prices.
