Pfluger: Hidden Footage Shows Talarico's Stance on Transgender Issues Remains Unchanged

Pfluger Critiques Talarico’s Stance on Transgender Issues

August Pfluger, the chairman of the Republican Study Committee, has expressed concerns about Texas Democrat U.S. Senate candidate James Talarico, particularly in light of recent undercover footage. In this footage, Talarico stated that his perspective on transgender issues remains unchanged. Pfluger argues that this inconsistency makes Talarico untrustworthy and that his attempts to present himself as a moderate conflict with his long-standing views on both transgender policies and the oil and gas sector.

During an interview on The Scott Jennings Show, Pfluger, who leads the largest Republican caucus in Congress, discussed the ongoing Texas Senate race, which pits Talarico against Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton. This dialogue followed the airing of the undercover footage obtained by the Daily Wire.

In the footage, Talarico expressed, “The way I fought for trans kids in the legislature is how I will fight for the U.S. Senate, and my position hasn’t changed.” He elaborated that decisions regarding whether transgender athletes can compete in sports should be made locally, sport by sport, asserting that he believes his policy is the most inclusive of any candidate.

Jennings subsequently queried Pfluger about whether Texans can truly trust Talarico on matters related to transgender issues. Pfluger replied firmly, “Absolutely not. We know that he has been fixated on those issues.” He cited Talarico’s voting record in the Texas legislature, saying Talarico’s views on transgender issues—and his stance on the oil and gas industry—have not altered. “By the way, this industry is vital for Texas,” he added.

Pfluger voiced skepticism regarding Talarico’s claims about local decision-making, questioning the credibility of a Democrat running for Senate in Texas. “They want to regulate everything from Washington, D.C., and that’s precisely what he intends to do,” he remarked.

Jennings also touched on Talarico’s recent CNN town hall, where discussions about the SAVE America Act and abortion ensued. He characterized Talarico’s campaign as duplicitous, suggesting it was a blatant attempt to mislead voters while implying that Talarico wants people to think he might align with them politically.

The conversation shifted to Abdul El-Sayed, a Michigan Democrat U.S. Senate candidate, whom Jennings portrayed as a representation of the Democratic Party’s move towards more radical political positions. Pfluger quipped, “If you like what’s happening in France, then vote for El-Sayed.” He referenced El-Sayed’s past affiliations, suggesting they were contrary to U.S. interests, contrasting them with his own military service fighting terrorism.

Pfluger criticized El-Sayed for not adequately denouncing terrorism, stating there’s no place in the U.S. Senate for someone who fails to discuss such threats. He expressed strong support for Paxton leading up to the November 3 election, urging voters to choose Paxton if they oppose open borders and restrictions on the oil industry.

In other news, Texas Children’s Hospital recently launched what Paxton described as the nation’s first dedicated detransition clinic. This came after a significant $10 million settlement involving allegations regarding improper billing for gender-transition treatments. The hospital is now mandated to provide free, multi-disciplinary care for detransitioners for the next five years, with operational reforms in place.

This highlights the contrasting approaches of Paxton and Talarico regarding transgender policies. Paxton has actively challenged gender-transition treatments for minors and has taken legal action against the NCAA for allowing biological males to compete in women’s sports. On the other hand, Talarico opposed Senate Bill 14 in 2023, which sought to limit certain treatments for minors, arguing on moral grounds regarding the treatment of children experiencing gender dysphoria. He has made controversial statements about sex education and has shown support for transgender-identifying children.

Criticism of Talarico’s record also comes from detransitioner Soren Aldaco, who claimed she was unable to reach him over a span of four years regarding legislative issues on gender-transition treatments. Aldaco, who detransitioned after undergoing procedures at a young age, expressed her disappointment at being unable to communicate her concerns to Talarico, particularly around bills that could benefit both trans and detransitioning individuals.
