Words cannot adequately describe the tragic scene that unfolded before dawn Friday morning at the PGA Championship.
An innocent man named John Mills lost his life.
Scotty Scheffler ended up in handcuffs in a separate incident, which caused fans to lose their minds online.
Scheffler then came back and shot a 5-under 66, proving why he’s the best player on the planet.
However, in the middle of the championship, Xander Schauffele took the lead again.
winner:
ESPN’s Jeff Darlington
Jeff Darlington deserves an award Thanks to him for his exquisite report on Friday morning. He witnessed the entire encounter with Scheffler firsthand, recording video of police leading him away in handcuffs.
At one point, Scheffler asked Darlington for help, but the officer said: he will go to jail. ”
Darlington then provided accurate updates throughout the morning, serving as the pulse of perhaps the year’s biggest golf news.
internet
Friday may go down as the best day in golf Twitter history.
people created some of that funny memes One can only imagine, especially after Scheffler’s mug shot became public.
A police report was then filed, which included comments about the arresting officer’s pants. [and] Damaged beyond repair. ”
That set social media on fire even more.
But on the other hand, some people made inappropriate and off-topic jokes. But at least hundreds of people still have a sense of humor.
Schaeffler’s post-round press conference
The most anticipated press conference of Scheffler’s career exceeded expectations.
Scheffler’s contagious demeanor was evident as he not only praised law enforcement for their work, but also paid tribute to Mills multiple times.
He also talked about stretching in his cell while watching him being taken into custody on television from the police station.
Scheffler also opened up about his emotions and how his mind kept spinning throughout the day. This incident clearly upset him, which was understandable. But he’s still lurking just three shots behind Schauffele heading into the weekend.
Xander Schauffele & Collin Morikawa
Schauffele and Morikawa have dominated Valhalla so far, posting a combined 23-under through 36 holes.
Morikawa made five consecutive birdies on the back nine and quickly rose through the ranks, briefly taking the lead.
And Schauffele kept the pedal to the metal after shooting a record-setting 9-under 62 on Thursday, setting a Valhalla PGA Championship record in the process. Schauffele posted a 3-under 68, leading Morikawa by one.
These two young stars will make up Saturday’s final pairing, with Morikawa aiming for his third major title and Schauffele aiming for his first.
There will certainly be more fireworks in Valhalla.

valhalla logistics
Multiple PGA Tour experts have complained about the logistics at Valhalla, which have caused nightmares all week.
Fans will reportedly have to travel up to 27 miles by shuttle bus from various parking lots around the city, while media members will have to endure 30-minute bus rides each day.
Additionally, the club’s entrance is off a major four-lane highway, making matters even more difficult. Considering everything that has happened and how easy this golf course has been to play, the chances of the American PGA returning to Valhalla in the future look dire at best.
tiger woods
The 15-time major champion started with a triple bogey on the second hole, then hit another seven on the short par-4 fourth hole.
On Friday, Woods was down to 8 over for the championship after four holes, which all but eliminated his chances of qualifying.
Woods also struggled with his short game, as he habitually hit putts well over the hole.
Perhaps an early exit will allow him to rest, refocus and prepare for Game 2 at Pinehurst.
Jon Rahm
Jon Rahm has struggled since joining LIV Golf, missing the cut this week by one stroke. He even threw the club in disgust on Thursday’s 16th hole, but then bounced back and finished in the red.
But he couldn’t get his groove going on Friday, finishing with a 1-over 72 and even par through 36 holes. He will aim to make amends at next month’s US Open.
