Philadelphia Sheriff Labels ICE as 'Phony, Impostor' Officers Breaking Legal and 'Moral Law'

Philadelphia Sheriff Criticizes Federal Immigration Agents

On Friday, Philadelphia Sheriff Rochelle Bilal expressed strong disapproval of federal immigration agents, labeling them as “false wannabe” law enforcement officials. During her remarks, she suggested that their actions breach both legal and moral standards.

Elected in 2020, Bilal’s comments mirrored sentiments expressed by Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner, who has warned that any federal agents committing crimes in the city will face arrest and prosecution.

During her speech, Bilal took aim at President Donald Trump, asserting that “the criminals in the White House” would not be able to protect federal employees from facing consequences for their actions.

Highlighting the gravity of her message, Bilal invoked the name of Renee Good, a woman recently killed by a federal immigration officer in Minneapolis. Official reports indicated that Good was shot after reportedly driving towards the officer with a firearm.

“Hello, I’m Rochelle Bilal, Sheriff of the City and County of Philadelphia. Say her name. Renee Good,” Bilal began, urging the audience to repeat her name. As the crowd joined in, the atmosphere echoed a typical call-and-response format often found in church services.

In an unexpected critique for someone in her position, Bilal, a former 27-year veteran of the police force, disputed the legitimacy of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers, claiming they operate outside the standards of real law enforcement.

She emphasized that true law enforcement would not engage in actions endangering innocent lives, a premise that raised questions regarding her comments on the Minneapolis incident versus ICE operations as a whole.

Bilal’s statements triggered a variety of reactions on social media, with many expressing disbelief and perplexity at her outburst. “This is not a parody… Is it possible to coexist with someone like this?” one commenter remarked, while others shared their astonishment at her claims.

Bilal, who previously served as a secretary for the Philadelphia NAACP, has encountered controversy before. In 2021, she faced a lawsuit from former staff alleging job loss due to accusations of financial improprieties and harassment.

Additional criticisms have surfaced regarding her spending practices within her department, including funds allegedly used for promotional material bearing her image.
