Air Canada flight attendant survives being ejected from plane in LaGuardia crash

Air Canada Plane Involved in Collision at LaGuardia

An Air Canada Express regional jet struck a ground vehicle while landing at LaGuardia Airport in New York. This incident led to an emergency ground stop and caused widespread disruption for flights. Authorities are currently looking into what happened.

One flight attendant, Solange Tremblay, survived being ejected from the plane during the crash. Now hospitalized, she is dealing with serious injuries, and her daughter shared that her recovery may take a considerable amount of time.

On March 22, Tremblay was discovered alive on the runway, still strapped into her jump seat, after the incident involving Jazz Aviation Flight 8646. Her daughter, Sarah Reppin, revealed this at a recent fundraising event, posting an image of her mother in the hospital.

“She was conscious throughout this ordeal,” Reppin noted in the fundraiser, “but she sustained serious injuries and is currently recovering in a New York hospital.”

Details of the Crash

Tremblay’s injuries are stated to include two broken legs and fractured vertebrae, necessitating several surgeries that will involve metal plates to repair her legs. “We’re monitoring her condition to determine if further surgery is required,” Reppin commented.

To assist with medical expenses, a GoFundMe campaign has been launched, which has already raised over $133,000 with more than 2,200 contributions by Sunday afternoon.

Survival Amid Tragedy

Tremblay’s survival has been described as miraculous. Aviation safety expert Jeff Gazzetti highlighted that, given the plane’s severe damage, her being alive is quite remarkable. He explained that the jump seat she occupied is designed to be extremely durable, perhaps even more so than regular passenger seats, to aid in emergencies where flight attendants must assist evacuating passengers.

Sadly, two pilots lost their lives in the collision with the fire truck during landing. The crash, which is still under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board, inflicted injuries on multiple passengers and emergency personnel.

Reppin expressed concern over her mother’s recovery, particularly regarding the risk of infection that could lead to severe complications. “We’re keeping a close watch on her health,” she stated. “It’s a daily battle, really.”

The NTSB has indicated that there might be inconsistencies in the information gathered from LaGuardia Tower, particularly regarding who was overseeing the ground operations at the time of the incident.
