Update on Capitol Hill Intern Shooting

Police have shared mugshots of two 17-year-olds implicated in the shooting death of a Capitol Hill intern in Washington, D.C., back in June.

The victim, Eric Turpinian-Yachim, was a 21-year-old student from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and an intern for R-Kan Rep. Ron Estes. He was tragically shot near the White House on June 30th.

The suspects, Kelvin Thomas Jr. from Southeast D.C. and Jalen Lucas from Northwest D.C., were captured and charged as adults with premeditated first-degree murder while armed.

Authorities are also searching for an 18-year-old, Nacwan Antonio Lucas, from Granby, Massachusetts.

It’s reported that during the incident, a woman and a 16-year-old boy were injured as well.

July saw a moment of silence in the House to honor Turpinian-Yachim, with Rep. Estes remembering him as “a dedicated, thoughtful and kind man who loved our country.”

Attorney General Pam Bondy mentioned that, should the suspects be convicted, they face “severe justice.” She expressed hope that justice would provide some comfort to the victim’s family.

The relationship between Nacwan Lucas and Jalen Lucas has not been confirmed, and it’s unclear if either has a previous criminal record.

The Metropolitan Police Department is offering a standard reward of $25,000 for information that leads to a murder conviction in D.C. Additionally, the FBI’s Washington Field Office has added $15,000, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office contributed $10,000, bringing the total reward for information on Nacwan Lucas to $50,000.

Authorities are advising anyone with information regarding him to avoid contact and call the police at 202-727-9099, or send anonymous tips via text to 50411.
