Walz: Human rights violations in Iran are well documented
US Ambassador to the United Nations, Mike Walz, stated during a UN General Assembly speech that the Islamic regime in Iran is accountable for the deaths of “countless” Americans and is on an “illegal march” toward developing nuclear weapons.
During a heated discussion on “Piers Morgan Uncensored,” the Iranian-born former Canadian politician Goldie Ghamali accused Cenk Uyghur, host of “The Young Turks,” of spreading “jihadist Islamist propaganda.” This occurred during a roundtable addressing the anti-regime protests and U.S. policies regarding Iran.
Political analysts gathered on Morgan’s show to examine the widespread protests in Iran, which have led to a deadly government crackdown and internet blackouts, as reported by human rights advocates.
Former President Donald Trump has indicated possible action against the Iranian regime, urging Tehran to cease its violence against citizens through multiple posts on Truth Social.
Uyghur expressed his opposition to U.S. intervention, suggesting it could backfire and invoke past foreign policy errors.
As tensions rose, Ghamari sharply criticized Uyghur’s views, asserting that he lacks an understanding of the Iranian situation. The two began to interrupt each other as the debate escalated.
“First and foremost, Cenk is not Iranian, so he has no grasp of what’s unfolding in occupied Iran,” Ghamari remarked. “I’m sure he doesn’t even speak Persian.”
Uyghur interjected, trying to clarify: “Actually, it’s Persian.”
The debate devolved into a personal clash, with Ghamari insisting that Uyghur had no right to interrupt her while she spoke “on behalf of 90 million Iranians.”
“You are not speaking for all Iranians,” Uyghur countered, questioning her mandate to represent the Iranian populace.
“Yes, I am,” she insisted firmly.
The discussion then touched on Iran’s 1979 revolution, with Ghamari categorizing it as an “Islamic coup” and discussing the need to right historical wrongs. She argued that before 1979, Iran was a “constitutional monarchy” and expressed support for exiled Prince Reza Pahlavi’s return to power.
Supporters of the Iranian government were also noted to be chanting “Death to America” and demanding President Trump’s assassination amid protests against human rights abuses in Iran, which were entering their 18th day amid ongoing internet restrictions.
