Pilot, Daughter Killed When Plane Hits California Building

On Thursday, a small plane crashed in Fullerton, California, tragically claiming the lives of two people and injuring 19 people at the scene.

The plane crashed into a “furniture upholstery” manufacturing factory where about 200 people were working, according to the Associated Press. reported on friday.

Fullerton Police Department officials said the two people who died are believed to have been on the plane at the time of the tragedy, and the injured were inside the building at the time of the incident.

Elliott Simpson, an air accident investigator with the National Transportation Safety Board, said the pilot requested an immediate return to the airport at an altitude of about 900 feet (274 meters) and confirmed the tower would be ready for an immediate landing. The plane crashed less than two minutes after takeoff from Fullerton Municipal Airport in Orange County, 10 kilometers from Disneyland, according to aviation tracking website FlightAware. The crash occurred about 1,000 feet (305 meters) short of Runway 24, Simpson said.

Worker Julio Arroyo said He added that he and others were working at KCAL when they heard an explosion and saw a large fireball, “and everyone had to run.”

KCAL noted that authorities are investigating the incident.

Police said the two people who died will be identified once their next of kin can be contacted, according to the Associated Press.
