Pilot killed and passenger injured as small plane crashes in Georgia neighborhood

One person was killed Sunday night when a small plane crashed in a residential area in Savannah, Georgia, local police said.

The Savannah Police Department said in a brief statement that officers were dispatched to the crash scene on East 66th Street, about three miles south of the city's Historic District.

Savannah police posted on X that the pilot was killed and the passenger had minor injuries, adding that there were “no injuries on the ground.”

The Savannah Fire Union posted on Facebook that the crash happened shortly before 10 p.m.

The Savannah Professional Firefighters Association posted a photo of a broken plane on the ground in front of a home.

The cause of the crash was not immediately known.

Police said the Federal Aviation Administration is investigating.
