A plane crash in Massachusetts has claimed the life of 30-year-old Jeffrey Andrews. His family confirmed that he crashed while taking off from Beverly Regional Airport on Thursday morning. This incident was highlighted by WBZ News.
Witnesses at the airport reported observing a puff of smoke just before the aircraft went down, according to the NTSB.
Preliminary findings from the NTSB suggest there might have been some engine failure, noting a “gradual lower left descent turn.”
Andrews, who worked as a staff scientist at the MIT Lincoln Institute, was eagerly anticipating the arrival of his first child with his wife, Gentry.
According to the family, “Jeffrey was a vibrant soul, full of kindness, with a love for flying. He was overjoyed about becoming a father.” The couple is expecting their baby in October.
Sadly, Gentry has been facing another significant loss, having recently lost her mother, Marcia.
Witnesses shared that before the crash, they saw smoke plumes, indicating something had gone wrong shortly after takeoff from Beverly Regional Airport.
Andrews had considerable flying experience and was also a lecturer at Lehigh University. He graduated with a PhD from Purdue University and was in the process of becoming a certified flight instructor.
Described as always sporting a bow tie and bright smile, he had various hobbies, including cooking, baking, and an interest in photography. He even had a particular passion for scuba diving.
A fundraising campaign for Gentry and their upcoming child has exceeded $50,000, approaching their goal of $60,000.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Gentry reminisced about a recent camping trip with her husband, mentioning how he handled a potential engine issue calmly, calling it “textbook.” However, she conveyed the shock they experienced after the aircraft went down.
Reports indicate that another person involved in the crash has sustained serious injuries.
The Massachusetts State Police, along with the FAA and the NTSB, are investigating the crash, as details are still unfolding.
The family expressed gratitude towards investigators, hoping for clarity on what led to this tragic loss.
