The Pima County Sheriff’s Department has issued a warning about a new scam involving Nancy Guthrie.
In a statement, the sheriff’s office mentioned it is aware of social media posts concerning the Guthrie investigation, which include QR codes asking for money.
The department clarified that “PCSD will never solicit money in connection with this case or investigation.”
Nancy Guthrie’s case has prompted concerns about scammers targeting unaware individuals.
The agency advised the public to refrain from sending money to unknown individuals or scanning QR codes that request payment. They also encouraged anyone who encounters such posts to report them.
Nancy, the mother of Savannah Guthrie from NBC’s “Today” show, has been missing for over 164 days, having disappeared from her Tucson home on February 1, 2026.
In late June, Savannah made an emotional appeal on her show, urging viewers to come forward with any information. This came after a ransom note was sent to her family, including a claim about her mother’s death.
She stated, “I want to take this opportunity to ask people, I really want people to come forward. Someone knows something. This is a new story today that is getting your attention, but this is the life my sister is living, this is the life I am living, my brother is living, my extended family is living, my children are living every day. We are suffering.”
She expressed an unyielding hope, saying, “No matter how hard I try to come out here every day and smile and find joy, we will never be at peace. We will, I promise you, it’s time to tell you that we need your help. We need your help. I’m not going to let that opportunity pass.”
The sheriff’s office asks anyone with any information on Nancy’s disappearance to call them at 520-351-4900 or 88-CRIME (520-882-7463). Reports, including digital photos or videos, can also be submitted through the FBI at fbi.gov/findguthrie.
