Pipe bomber expressed his doubts about the 2020 election to FBI investigators

Suspect in D.C. Pipe Bombings Admits to Planting Devices

Investigators revealed that the individual accused in the Washington, D.C. pipe bomb incidents engaged in lengthy discussions with them, where he acknowledged planting the explosive devices and voiced skepticism regarding the results of the 2020 presidential election.

These devices were positioned at the Democratic and Republican National Committee headquarters hours prior to the Congressional certification on January 6, 2021, coinciding with the violent protests that unfolded.

Brian Cole Jr., the suspect, continues to face ongoing questioning from the FBI as he is set to make his initial court appearance later today. He has yet to enter a plea regarding the charges.

Cole was taken into custody outside his residence in Virginia last Thursday and, according to officials, has provided several statements to federal authorities.

Another source indicated to investigators that the suspect’s possible motivations were just a part of what they uncovered early in this active investigation, and his complete identity remains somewhat uncertain.

The comments he made about the 2020 election, along with his apparent support for former President Trump, might offer some clues about his reasons for allegedly planting the pipe bomb, which fortunately did not detonate.

While the FBI and Justice Department have publicly refrained from discussing the motive, they have suggested that additional information will be forthcoming, potentially including further charges.

Reports indicate that Cole Jr. is responsible for placing two pipe bombs near the headquarters of both political parties right when thousands were rallying a few blocks away at the U.S. Capitol.

FBI surveillance footage shows him placing the two explosives in D.C. They were discovered hours later and were confirmed by the FBI to be “viable devices that could explode and cause serious injury or death.”

Attorney General Pam Bondi stated that Cole has been charged with the use of an explosive device, and she expects more charges to be filed as the investigation progresses.

Cole was apprehended in Northern Virginia and will have his first legal proceedings on Friday in Washington, D.C.

FBI Director Kash Patel criticized the previous administration’s approach to the investigation, claiming there was neglect of key evidence for four years. In contrast, he mentioned that the current FBI efforts have utilized cell phone geolocation data to track suspects more effectively.

“We revisited cell tower data and consulted with the providers based on search warrant information, raising questions about the lack of connectivity among phone numbers and geolocation tracking,” Patel noted. “Either there’s total incompetence or deliberate negligence, both of which are unacceptable to this FBI.”

This is an ongoing story with more updates expected.
