The woman who allegedly spat on former US attorney Ed Martin in Washington, D.C., may soon face prison time.
Emily Gabriela Somer is purportedly breaching her release conditions following the incident and has been accused of threatening Martin through a post on the X social media platform, as reported on Thursday by multiple sources.
Footage from May 8 shows the moment she confronted Martin during an interview, clearly asking, “Who are you? You’re Ed Martin,” before spitting on him and walking away.
Somer was released without bail on May 22 after her arrest for allegedly spitting on Martin, with conditions that prohibited her from contacting him in any manner.
However, prosecutors claim Sommer used her X handle to reference Martin in a recent post, where she tagged him under the name “left tits.”
Somer expressed her frustrations, saying, “My property is essentially seized, and I don’t have the basic necessities or money to supply myself or my dog.” Another post seems to indicate she admitted to the act on the same day it happened.
Janine Piro, who replaced Martin as interim US attorney for the District of Columbia, submitted an allegation in Sommer’s case after being sworn in on May 15.
On Thursday, Piro requested Judge Matthew Charbeau to revoke Sommer’s release terms, claiming that there is strong evidence to support the violation of those terms, according to reports.
Currently, Martin serves as a lawyer for the US Department of Justice (DOJ) and shared insights about his recent role in an interview.
He mentioned that he didn’t want an acting role but undertook his responsibilities seriously, navigating various challenges like opposition from some Republicans during his time in office.
Now, as assistant attorney general, Martin has been vocal about rooting out government corruption and has devised a strategic plan for this mission, according to reports.
